FABRICATION LAB

The Fabrication Lab (the Fab Lab) encompasses over 3,000 square feet of open build space, offering a flexible industrial environment for hands-on collaboration. The Fab Lab offers open floor area, professional-grade tools and shop infrastructure, and configurable workstations to support structured or creative use. Whether prototyping a product, building furniture, refining an art installation, or launching a new business, the Fab Lab offers a scalable space to build. 

SHOP SPACES

The Fab Lab offers a multi-disciplinary workspace designed to support a wide range of making practices, from traditional fabrication to creative production. Categorized by access level, the Fab Lab's specialized shop spaces provide the tools, environments, and infrastructure needed to move projects from idea to reality.

WORKSHOP

Equipped with common hand and lightweight power tools and general consumables, the Workshop offers traditional industrial workspace to support all stages of fabrication from exploration to design to development.

WOOD SHOP

Supporting both heavy and fine fabrication, the Wood Shop is a fully equipped workspace housed in the Workshop with access to power tools, stationary machinery, and essential equipment needed to move efficiently from raw material to finished build.

TECH SHOP

Designed to house 3D printers, laser cutters, and related equipment, the Tech Shop is a clean fabrication environment housed in the Workshop dedicated to digital tools and precision workflows to support rapid prototyping and digital integration.

METAL SHOP

Equipped with core metalworking tools designed for prototyping, repair, and custom fabrication with heavyweight materials, the Metal Shop supports complex fabrication processes and is built for precision and durability.

The Fab Lab is a membership-driven organization, and membership is required prior to use of the facility.

PROGRAMS

From introductory sessions to intensive workshops and one-off events, the Fab Lab leads several programs designed to support different types of makers at different levels of engagement with tools, materials, and fabrication workflows.

BUILD NIGHTS

Shop Talks offer low-cost, high-value introductory sessions designed for curious tinkerers and makers. ARTIST NIGHTS

Artist Nights offer monthly creative spaces to connect with established and emerging local artists. These events provide workspace, wall space, and materials to develop artistic skill sets and create new work. Sketch, paint, and create with other creatives every third Friday of the month. OPEN INNOVATION LAB

The Open Innovation Lab (OIL) is a regional hub for open-source hardware (OSHW) research and civic technology led by Idea Forge Foundation. This program supports innovation development by physically validating open hardware designs from partners organizations. WHAT IS A MAKERSPACE?

Makerspaces offer industrial-grade fabrication equipment to the public via membership plans and serve as a place for DIYers, artists, small business owners, and hobbyists to create without incurring heavy tools costs. 

WHEN IS THE FAB LAB OPEN?

The Fab Lab is open to paid members Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

HOW LONG IS MEMBERSHIP?

Membership runs for 12 months from the day you buy a Fab Lab membership, but it can be cancelled at any time. 

WHAT BENEFITS DO I GET AS A MEMBER?

As a Fab Lab member, you get access to tools and workspace in the Fab Lab during member hours, plus ongoing access to member chat groups, invitations to inventor meetups, member discounts (if applicable), and more.

CAN MEMBERSHIP SAVE ME MONEY?

It can cost up to $20,000 in startup costs to set up a fully equipped shop space, including tools, machinery, insulating and setting up new electrical, and more, assuming you even have the space. Joining the Fab Lab can save you thousands in startup costs and ongoing equipment maintenance and utilities costs.

DOES THE FAB LAB OFFER CLASSES?

The Fab Lab offers several events, from introductory Shop Talks to pop-up training workshops to provide exploratory and hands-on training in our equipment and machinery, plus safety orientation and minimum competency tools trainings.

CAN I BRING A GUEST?

Members are allowed to bring a guest once per month, provided the guest signs all applicable waivers and is trained to use our equipment.

DOES THE FAB LAB SELL MATERIALS?

The Fab Lab does sell some materials, including wood, acrylic, glass, particle board, and metal scrap, as available, plus extra scrap wood that is made available at no cost to members. 

CAN MEMBERS STORE MATERIALS?

Members can purchase access to a standard storage locker for $15 per month and access to pallet rack shelf storage for $25 per month (limited availability). Additionally, members can leave some materials and tools on site during certain projects if part of a specific Fab Lab program at no extra cost.

CAN I CANCEL MEMBERSHIP?

While memberships run for 12 months, members can cancel and reactivate their membership plans at any time. 

DOES THE FAB LAB TAKE COMMISSION WORK?

The Fab Lab does take some work on commission, depending on machine availability and complexity, for community partners, nonprofit organizations, and startups.
